Stephen McConnell “Steve” Case, a renowned American businessman, was born on August 21, 1958. He is best known as the cofounder and former chairman and CEO of America Online. Steve Case started his career by working as an assistant brands manager for Procter & Gamble for its office in Cincinnati, Ohio. After two years, Steve Case worked as the manager for Pizza Hut Inc’s new pizza marketing. In 1985, Steve Case became a cofounder of an online services company called Quantum Computer Services. After a few years, he was promoted to serve as the executive vice president of the company and eventually became its chairman and CEO. There were several changes made to the company under Steve Case’s leadership. One of the changes he made was the addition of an online service known as the Quantum Link (or Q-Link for short). The service was created for the company’s Commodore 64 in 1985. Three years later, the company started offering its new online service for Apple and PC-Link for IBM compatible computers. This new online service was known as AppleLink. Finally, in 1991, Steve Case decided to change the company’s name to America Online. Apart from changing its name, Steve Case also merged the company’s PC and Apple services under the new AOL name.
