Patricia Lynn Murray
Patricia Lynn Murray is the senior United States Senator from Washington, and the state’s first woman senator. Murray serves as the Senate Majority Conference Secretary, which gives her the fifth-highest rank in the caucus. Murray also serves as a senior member of the Committee on Appropriations and the chairwoman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee. When Murray was a citizen-lobbyist for environmental and educational issues, a state representative told her she couldn’t make a difference because Murray was just a “mom in tennis shoes.” This phrase has become Patricia Lynn Murray’s theme in a series of successful political campaigns.
