Robert Edward “Ted” Turner III was born on November 19, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is famous for founding the first 24-hour cable news channel, CNN. Aside from this, he is also the founder of WTBS, an independent television station. Ted Turner inherited his father’s billboard business at the age of 24. He started running Turner Outdoor Advertising in 1963 and eventually created the Turner Broadcasting System right after he purchased an Atlanta UHF station in 1970. Ted Turner is also famous for his works of philanthropy. He has donated $1 billion to support several UN causes. At present, Ted Turner serves as the chairman of the United Nations Foundation Board of Directors. Ted Turner has also offered a percentage of his assets to capitalism and environmentalism. Owning vast hectares of land, Ted Turner uses a large part of his properties as ranches in order to re-popularize bison meat for his restaurant chain, Ted’s Montana Grill. As a result of running these ranches, Ted Turner is able to amass the largest herd all over the world. During the early 1990s, Ted Turner established the Turner Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing philanthropic grants for the environment, as well as for the entire human population.
